The 10-Week programmes are based on research in 'mind-body medicine'.
They provide the opportunity to learn a variety of ways to produce the
'relaxation response' (the opposite of the body's 'stress response'),
and enable participants to develop more positive patterns of thinking,
healthier lifestyle patterns (nutrition and physical activity, stress
management skills), and coping skills. The 'relaxation response' tools reduce your heart rate, rate of breathing and blood pressure, shift your brainwaves to slower patterns associated with deep rest, and improve immune function. Elements of the 10-Week Programme:
Orientation Sessions:One free orientation session is held prior to the start of each 10-week programme. This provides: an opportunity to better understand the programme and what's involved, to meet the facilitator, and ask any questions you may have.The orientation session is free of charge. Programme Sessions:10 weekly sessions (first session is 2.5-hours, nine 2-hour sessions)Maximum of 14-member groups Materials: include a programme guide-book and set of CD's.To take part, you will need to have use of a personal CD player so that you can listen on a daily basis to the CDs provided.What Specific Programmes are Available?Programmes are offered which are tailored to the specific needs of women.For example: 'Women's Wellness: Mind-Body Wellbeing' - a 10 week programme 'Freedom from Dieting' - a workshop consisting of 2 half-days. Who Benefits?Anyone who wishes to improve her physical health and psychological wellbeing.Anyone who has a stress-related health condition, or a health condition that is worsened by stress. What happens when I complete the 10-week programme?Wellness Support: ongoing Wellness sessions...After completing a 10-week programme, you may choose to join group sessions which provide ongoing educational and social support for participants. The format focuses on sharing new ideas and experiences with others and reinforcing the principles and skills learned in the 10-week programme (times: to be advised).
